rbiggs.jpgRichard Biggs, an actor known for playing physician roles, died on May 22. Cause of death was not released. He was 44.

The Columbus, Ohio native was only 17 when he decided to become an actor. Biggs studied performing arts at the University of Southern California and spent his off-hours teaching at the 32nd Street Magnet School in Los Angeles. After graduation, he taught at the Will Geer Theater and performed in its productions of “Tempest,” “Cymbeline” and “The Taming of the Shrew.”

His big break came in 1987 when he landed the role of Dr. Marcus Hunter on the NBC soap opera, “Days of Our Lives.” Biggs regularly appeared on the daytime drama for five years and won a Soap Opera Digest Award for Best Supporting Actor. Since 2001, he also had recurring roles on the CBS soap “Guiding Light” and on the Lifetime drama, “Strong Medicine.”

Biggs took his medical and theatrical prowess into space when he was cast as Dr. Stephen Franklin on the SCI FI show, “Babylon 5.” He played the part for four seasons and in three subsequent TV movies. Biggs also made guest appearances on numerous prime time shows, including “JAG,” “ER” and “NYPD Blue.” Last month, he played Dr. Flynn on an episode of NBC’s “Crossing Jordan.”

Although I never met Richard and only knew him as Dr. Franklin from B5… despite, or maybe because of this film role, he projected a warmth and friendliness into the role that he created. He was that special kind of guy that you would have been proud to call him your friend. My prayers and thoughts go to your family, Richard. Please God, may they find the strength that they need to see them through this ordeal.

  42. YAR

I only step away from the television for a brief moment. When I returned I saw Andy and her daughters crying. I wondered what I had missed. When I realized Milo had died I was very upset, and wondered why he was written off the show; somehow it didn’t make sense, especially considering the prior week’s episode. At the end of the show, I saw in Memory of Richard Biggs. I immediately went to to find out who Richard Biggs was, but there was no picture and not much information. Today, I got the total understanding. I began reading just about everything I could find out about him. I enjoyed his work and enjoyed seeing him with Renee and Andy “at the same time”. I will miss seeing him on Sunday evenings. May God Bless his wife, sons, parents, sisters, family, friends, co-works and fans.
We enjoyed you, “Doc” and we thank God for the “piece” of you he allowed us to experience.
It was truly amazing how many people went to the internet at the same time to find out who Richard Biggs was. We were all shocked to find out it was actually, Milo, but I am in awe by the love and respect of his fans.

Like many people on here, I found out about the passing of Mr. Richard Biggs from Strong Medicine. I was very upset when they said he died. I thought that it was a ploy to get Andy and Les back together. Then, when they put in memory of him, I in a sense was relieved that it was not a ploy, but very sad to hear of his death.
His family and friends are in my prayers.

  44. Lisa Grunewald

I am shocked to find out about Richard Biggs. He was such a vibrant and happy man. I did have the pleasure of knowing Richard in the time he performed on “Days of our Lives”. My prayers are with his family and may God bless them in this time of sorrow.

I was very sadden to here that Richard Biggs had passed away, I thought he was written out of the show and I was very upset about it. Then I saw the tribute and rushed to the enternet to find out it was really true that he had passed away. Why wasn’t his death publicised so his fans could pray for his famly. If it were a white actor People magazine would have rushed the article in it. However May God bless and keep his family. Always CK.

I did not know what Milo’s real name was. However, I loved his role on Strong Medicine as well as Any Day Now, Guiding Light etc. I did not know of his death until watching Strong Medicine. I was very upset and thought he was written off to get Andy and her ex back together also. I saw the In Memory I knew something was not right. Since I had recorded it, I went back to the beginning of the show just confirm his name. I saw the name listed but not listed with a face. The internet answered what I had began to fear. I am very sad and I will truly miss seeing him on my screen Sunday nights. My love and prayers also go out to his family.

We danced together in the disco on the cruise. He was so full of life and was kind to everyone of all ages. He was a remarkable young man and his passing is a tremendous loss both to the acting community and to us all. Please accept my condolences and prayers for your loss.

Richard Biggs was a great actor. My favorite show is Strong Medicine and when I heard that not just his character had passed but Richard had passed it was quite a shock. This young man personified dignity and grace. Actors portray many different emotions but one thing that is always true is compassion. I know this seems repetitive, but I too have just found out about Richard Biggs untimely death. I had just finished watching Strong Medicine, a re-run, and was enjoying it until the script shifted into Dr. Milo’s death. I immediately got upset because I was wondering why they suddenly killed off his character and why didn’t they at least show images or a funeral of him. It never dawned on me that the actual actor died as well. I was shocked. I would like to personal extend my condolences to his family, friends, and co-stars and to let them know that as long as they keep his memory alive they will never be alone or unhappy. May God bless them!!!

  73. Katrena Hicks

I have been watching strong medicine since it began. No season was a great as when the relationship between Doctor Campbell and Doctor Milo developed. His character literally breathe life into her character. I loved him when he played Bill on Any Day Now. Again he has a way of giving the Lady in his life substance. Richard Biggs will be missed. I can’t believe I only found out while watching a rerun of the show. My heart goes out to his family, co-workers, and friends. I have lost three very close relatives within the last two years so I can relate to what they are going through. Trust God to help you get through this sad time.

  74. N Young

  78. tjnunley

i first caught a glimpse of Rick Biggs when he appeared as Marcus on Days of Our Lives. I had an ooprtunity to personally meet him one day back in 1988. To my delight, he was as charming as his character on television. I was shocked and saddened to hear that he made his transition so soon. He will be missed !!! RIP

  79. Harry Allen

I’m completely shocked by this, but, to make it worse, as I write, it’s February 5, 2005. I *just* found this out while watching the Screen Actors Guild Awards, over **8 months** after Richard Bigg’s death. I was so surprised

  80. Patti

I just read Harry’s entry there, and felt exactly the same way! I saw that tribute on the SAG Awards to those who had passed on, and I’d missed hearing of Richard’s death, having just seen him on the Crossing Jordan episode not long ago, along with the deaths of Ossie Davis and Paul Winfield.
How very sad for all of us.

  81. christine Lewis

I really enjoyed Mr. Biggs on Any day now and Strong Medicine. I also was surprised to learn that he had lived in Columbus, Oh., where I also live. I learned of his death from the SAG Awards. He will be missed. My prayers go to his family and friends.

  82. Rossette

As with a few other people who have left their words of condolence, I didn’t find out about Mr. Biggs passing until the SAG awards last night and I must admit I began to cry. I had followed Mr. Biggs’ career for many years from Days of Our Lives and especially on Babylon 5. I was incredibly saddened by this, but in the midst of this sadness, I found that his friends from Days and B5 are holding a breakfast and autograph signing to raise money to help out his family. I would like to say thank you to them for their love and concern for a friends family, I just wish I could go so I could share my memories of Mr. Biggs with them and hear their wonderful stories of this incredible talent that we have all lost. Goddess bless Richard and may you be at peace and my your family find their peace.

  83. Hegeman

As I watched the SAG Awards last night, I was shocked, to say the least, when I saw Mr. Biggs’ picture in the Book of Remembrance. I had not ever known his name but had watched him in several TV movies, especially Strong Medicine. I pray that God ushered him into His bosom and that Mr. Biggs’ family will be given peace within and without as they cope with his passing.

  84. Teresa

I was very shocked and saddened to hear about Richard Biggs death as I was watching the SAG Awards on Saturday night. I most remember him as Dr. Marcus Hunter on Days of our Lives. He will be greatly missed. My prayers are with him and his family.

  85. Donna

I too was shocked and saddend by the death of Richard Biggs. I just learned about it from the sag awards. May peace be with his family. A great loss.

  91. NG

I “met” Richard Biggs first as Bill Moody in Any Day Now and was so disappointed when he left the series. He lit up that series with his unique depiction of a suave though unsophisticated cop. I was delighted to have him back in Strong Medicine, and like many who have written tributes before, was very angry when his character was killed in a car accident. I got online to write Lifetime an angry note when I saw the credits at the end of the broadcast…In Memory of Richard Biggs. I am still stunned and find it so hard to believe that one so young and so apparently vibrant has left us.
In the world of television, Richard Biggs has left a tremendous void that can’t be filled.

  92. Christian

This is very sad! I didn’t know until now that Richard Biggs died. I was looking for autographs as I got this information. It’s hard to believe when you heard his b5 comment a few minutes ago.
He was a great actor. He will be missed. R.I.P.

5 minutes ago I was watching Strong Medicine and I thought the death of Richard was just the part of the storyline or maybe he decided to start another project. I got a shock of my life when they wrote ‘In Loving memory…’. In SA we are far behind and its so sad that I only found out 7 months later. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and I’d like to qoute from a poem by anonymous “…..God’s garden must be beautiful, He always takes the best….” RIP

Watching this weeks episode of strong medicine (we are even far more behind here in the Netherlands) I was also struck by his death. And feeling a kind of guilty I did not know this until now.
I had the oppurtunity to meet him a few years ago at a SciFi convention here in the Netherlands. I had a short “private” moment with him. He was a bit bored (waiting at a table with some other actors to give autographs) and I was just standing there (good friends with security and organizers). He called me and we had a little chat. I remember him as a sweet man, he radiated a kind of soothing energy.
    My condolence to his family.

It’s March 16th 2006 and I found out about Richard Biggs 2 days ago. It completely blew my mind, I feel as though I’ve lost a family member. I know him form Days of our Lives (we are now in the year of 1990 on the soap) and I love him. He brings so much warmth and goodness to his character it just leaps out at you. In the 2 days since I found out, I’ve been on the net trying to dig up everything I can about him, it’s like I don’t want it to be true. I will truly miss this wonder of a man and I thank GOD for giving him the oppurtunity to love and be loved by so many. Blessings to his faimily

I was just looking up the old cast members from B5, and its such a shame that Richard died so young. I don’t really know what to say. Condolences to his family seem late, but are given in tribute.

I was sadden to hear about Richard Biggs passing. My prayers go out to his family. I was resting and my television channel was on nicktoons tv, shown Drake & Josh. That’s when I had notice Mr. Biggs in the episode, so I continue to watch it. At the end of the show, a message was posted: In Memory of Richard Biggs. I was sadden to hear he had passed away over two years ago.
Like some of the blogs I had read, I first saw him on Days of our Lives. I no longer watch the show, but his character as a doctor was outstanding. I enjoyed his doctor character again in Babylon 5.
He was a talent actor. I always hope he would one day have his on starring show. His work was that deserving.
There is a song called: Jesus is Love by the Commodores. Richard is love by Jesus.

My condolences to Richard’s friends and family. A great actor who will be remembered by his fans as long as they live. Richard will never really die as his work will be seen by future generations for ever. Babylon 5 was a great series and inspired many science and sci-fi fans. Richard achieved a great deal in becomming part of it.
We are here but a short time. Be all you can be!!

I am so saddened by the death of Richard Biggs. I am really late finding it out. I just saw the rerun of Strong Medicine in 2007 and realized who had died. I hope his family is doing well and can move on beyond this great tragedy. I will treasure the episodes I have on tape which feature his fine performances. Sue

I too just watched a re-run of strong medicine and was shocked to hear that milo had died in a car crash, I could not understand why they would let him leave the show, the plot was getting very interesting. At the end of the show I saw “In Loving Memory” of Richard Biggs, wanting to know if this was milo.. after finding his picture on the internet I was shocked.. My heart goes out to his family & friends may god bless you always and give you comfort that he was a wonderful actor.

I was just watching on Lifetime a re-run of Strong
Medicine, and I could not understand for the life of me why they had Milo perish in a car accident until the end of the program when they showed in “Memory of Richad Briggs”. I then searched the internet to confirm his passing on. He was a great actor who will be missed very much. May he rest in peace. My prayers to his family and all that knew him.

Here it is June 6, 2007 and the re-run of Strong Medicine ran last evening with the tradic loss of “Milo”…I thought, no…why? This is television, all is alright, to find that at the end of the show it is, indeed, reality. I just pulled it up online because it was that much of a shock three years later to find this site.
His work as an actor was truly mving to everyone who watched him. What a great loss then and now and will be.
May God bless his family. He will be forever missed.

Being a huge Babylon 5 fan, I saw there was a new 10 years dvd coming out. I read reviews stating that Dr. Franklin was no longer with the cast. I thought they meant the character had left for other working gigs. I had no idea that the man Richard Biggs had passed away! I am deeply saddened to hear that such a young man and talented person left us so early. I admit I followed his acting on “Days” and he set a good example for me when I was growing up. It was nice to see a role model for minorities ( I am HIspanic) when I watched television. Always a strong polished actor, Richard added so much to everything he was a part of. I pray that God Bless your family and friends always!!! It was an honor to have followed your career.

I first learned of his passing in late 2004. I was shocked that such a kind, gentle spirit had passed so early in life. He was a great role model, always played positive, caring, nurturing roles. As time goes by we tend to forget things as we go about our daily lives. I am posting this just to say, you are missed by friends and especially family I am sure. I think of your contributions and zest for life, family, and career from time to time, still even today. And even at age 42, it still brings tears to my eyes. Heaven is enriched by your presence. Thank you Richard.
