Damn, damn, damn. What an incredible talent. And "Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now" is just a remarkable, powerful, anthem-like song.

It is such a waste to lose such a great person! I am really disheartened with the way of the youth of today. Thankfully, I can say that I appreciated Mr. Whitehead's contribution to the music industry before Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now. May his soul rest in peace.

It is a shame to see what hate and violence can do. In the case of John Whitehead here was a man who gave so much to the world. Soul anthems like "Back Stabbers", "I'll Always Love My Mama" and "Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now" are his legacy. The minute I heard the news I ran into my record room and grabbed the two wonderful albums he made with his partner Gene McFadden to spin them in his honor. Goodbye Mr. Whitehead... you'll be missed but your "soul" will never die.

This totally blows me away! I was just in NY the other weekend for his concert...little did we know it would have been his last. When McFadden & Whitehead came on, the show had just begun!!!!!!
I cherish the memories of hearing him & seeing him cut up' on stage...he gave us a good time!
His demise, however unfortunate and untimely, I sincerely hope his soul is free...my prayers to his loved ones.

John, John. So full of life, so full of spirit. Dearest Lord, please, please help us learn how to love ourselves and rid the thoughts of hate and jealousy that breed violence violence. May his soul rest in peace.

Ain't No Stopping Us Now, was a song of inspiration. It helped me through some tough days as a teen.

Such a tragedy. Ain't No Stoppin Us Now was our motto when we went on strike. The union came out in numbers to show it's support. We were proud to see that we had such support and it was all after having played this song. MacFadden shall be missed. I truly hope that justice prevails!

Words can not express "MY DEEPIEST SYMPATHY" It's a trip! It was only several months ago, that I was sitting with my mother, age 54. I was darn near in tears trying to recall this one song, that I used to jam to as she had the badiest house parties in the late 70's. I'm age 34 now and I am a true OL School Fan. It wasn't until May 2nd, I had the opportunity to here a band playing at a club here in California, they were real jammen musicians (that got off on Ol School jams) It wasn't until I heard "And No stoppin Us now" I yelled so loud, until everyone thought I had been bitten or perhaps on fire, I jumped to the ceiling, yelling "Thats' it, thats my song" I jammed all night, blushing because that song brought back nothing but good vibes, good values and a tribute to some good Ol school family & friend loven. Now I'm uncertain of how many of of you had the opporitunity to stay in the Room with all the rest of the kids as your parents had that jammin house party, me, my sister & brothers and ALL the children of every adult that attended the house party was jammin in the next room. BOY! did this song, give me the chills. I went to work, which is a very tensed and professional enviorment. I had everyone at this place Jammen to this Ol School Song, I mean It was like Soul Train City! Twoo weeks later, I was took by surprise, to hear that John Whitehead was murdered. My son is was diagnosed with Autism at the age of 5yrs old, the doctors stated that he'd never communicate or reach a level of independance. I recall me and my husband jammen in the car, continuosly singing this song while my son admired us. I'll never forget "God as my witness" after the death of my husband in 1997, my son bursted out singing this song, Now if this song doesn't mean much to anyone else it surely means allot to me. I am a personal aquaintance of The O'Jay's and I must say.. Nothing can ever replace the jams of the original Ol Schoolers.

John Whitehead will truly be missed in the Music industry and by all of his friends, who really knew him. He will be especially missed by Gene McFadden, who lost "half of his heart" when Whitehead transitioned this life. They were together since the Kindergarden. How do you make an adjustment for that kind of closeness. I sincerely give my condolesence to the Whitehead family, friends and well wishers. I fill the lost myself having had a music/business and friendship acquaintence with McFadden/Whitehead for many years. We will all miss him and will never forget him. He will always be with us. It is already a sad day when we lose a great artist from a natural death, but when life is taken in the hands of another man it is more heart broken. How could someone kill such a great person. He was someones father, brother, uncle more then anything he was a friend to the world. Mcfadden and Whitehead brought so much joy to others with there music and touch so many lives it is hard to think that they are no more. I think back to when my mother had the 8track of Ain't no stopping us now and then the 12'with the a and b sides opposite of each other. Memories are we have now, let's keep them intact and keep Whitehead alive in our hearts.

John Whitehead's untimely death reminds us all that tomorrow is not promised. They say the Creator has a master plan and maybe for J.W. the plan was for him to make beautiful, positive, inspiring music during his brief sojourn here.

I just found out that this outstanding entertainer was killed. Patti Labelle mentioned it on The Wayne Brady show. John you will surely be missed. Your music will live forever in all of our hearts. Hey, as long as his music is played around the world, friends, there ain't gonna be no stoppin' Mr. John Whitehead!!! The man could MOVE and the man could GROOVE! And he's gonna keep on movin' and groovin', as long as we remember the great legacy he left to all the soul fans. In fact, they were recently on PBS performing their song in concert with other 70's soul acts such as Tavares, Harold Melvin's Blue Notes, and Patti Labelle. They looked like they were having fun out there. That's one performance I know I'll treasure for a long time! Keep on smilin', John!

Maybe, if more people remembered the words to "Ain't no stoppin' us now", and took that positive message to heart, we could rise above some of the senseless violence in this world today. Even if one person took those words to heart, the ripple effect it could produce would be amazing! And just think what a better place this world would be!

The song, "Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now" was is still is the St. Louis Steamers (Major Indoor Soccer League) anthem and theme song since 1979. It's still an inspiration to all in Steamers Nation.
It will now take on even greater meaning knowing that this great composer as gone on to heaven. I know he'll be with us when we win a championship.

On my way back I drove three more hours to get to PHILLY before I got half way their I called John and told him of the great news John I have the money I heard him jump for joy over the phone

But I did not tell him it was a check, He would had a heart attack because his Lawyer dont take checks and the next day was court.

I just want to say that I was truly saddened and shocked to find out that one of my favorite artists had been killed. For what?? Spite, Jealousy, robbery? People are crazy. My sister graduated from college a few months ago and I sang the song "Aint no stoppin us now" for her class to remind them to go for their dreams and don't let nothin' stop them or hold them back. We jammed and had a good time. My deepest sympathy goes out to the family. We have truly lost a Soul Icon.

This truly hurt. I was watching a PBS special and came on to read about Macfadden and Whitehead, only to find out he had died. Nothing can erase that pain for his family and fans, but we can all take comfort in hie work and the messages in their songs that will transcend time. God Bless..

Toodles was always a truly nice and genuine guy. In elementary school he was cool and later when we were teenagers sitting on the steps on Sydenham St, singing he always had a smile on his face. Even when he knew that I had a crush on Pinky he was cool with that too. Let's celebrate his life but all that knew him will miss his smile.

I still can't believe someone would kill Mr. Whitehead in cold blood. I hope that someday justice will prevail and the killers will be brought to justice. Even if they are not found, they still have to face God in the end. I want to extend my sympathies to his family. His songs "Ain't No Stopping Us Now" and "Wake Up Everybody" are testaments to a man who had talent and a heart.

I am a very close friend of the family. I was shocked to hear about John. He was a great person. He kept smiles on everyones face, with hs funny jokes and his great personality. I met John through my God Father "Big Dog(Tone)", and I remember all of the block parties he performed on with the song "Aint no stoppin' us now", and all of the fun time we had playing Madden.

I miss him alot and he will never be forgotten.

I had the privilege of conducting the orchestra for some of the BIG SHOWS when John & Gene performed their "AIN'T NO STOPPING US NOW" and "WAKE UP EVERYBODY" hits. John always had a smile on his face and was one of the most encouraging performers on the stage! We'll forever do his song in his memory!

I just found out about John and I am shocked and deeply hurt. God have you now my brother, and knowing that helps ease the pain a lot.

I am really shocked to hear about John's death, I have only just found out about it due to my sisters and I could not remember who wrote "ain't no stoppin us now" we loved that song so much it brought back memories from the good old days so I decided to look it up and I was shocked when I read what happened to him I felt very sad inside. I can't believe that someone can take another person life for no reason what so ever, I hope someday justice will prevail and the killers will be brought to justice, my thoughts are with his family and friends and may John rest in peace.

Dam, It's been over a year since we lost one of the Great Ones. I grew up with three of John's children; Johnny, Kenny and Dawn and I'm still at a loss. They allways say "the good die young", in this case those words ring so true. But John Whitehead will truely live forever, the music he wrote has touched us all and will continue to touch people for generations to come. Through reading an article(Jan.20,2006)on the internet from the Philadelphia Weekly on Shirley Boggs, Founder of M.U.T.T.( Mothers United Through Tragedy); I read where John was murdered. "Ain't Nothing Stopping Us Now" was the tune that galvanize a theme anthem for African American, then and now. I pray that the family and you, Mrs. Elnor Whitehead are doing well. I'll lift you up in my prayers, as I plan to come to Philadelphia, to unite with Sister Boggs and speak out against our loved ones, who're murdered by gun-violence and other forms of violence on a national level. I will dedicate the event in the memory of every person that was named in the article, that spoke about Sister Boggs support. One of those persons' were you Mrs. Whitehead. I would be honored to honor your husband, at the event.

I think about Toot every day and miss him so much. At first it was really rough but it got a little better with time. Now, with the death of Gene McFadden it brings it all back. Philly suffered a tragic loss with Toot and now with Gene. I pray that the members of both of the families find comfort in knowing that these two men will be greatly missed and that the contributions they made will always be remembered.

I'm in the Air Force now, but it was when I was working my last job at the Radio Shack in Cheltenham Mall in Philadelphia when I had the pleasure to meet Mr.Whitehead. I can say that it was the most pleasant exchange that I had with any customer. The man was so positive, so full of life, and friendly that it was a pleasure just to be around him. I told him that no one realized that it was him and to sing a little bit.So he started singing "Aint No Stoppin' Us Now". When the people heard that powerful voice, they knew who it was then!I remember he had spent over $600 in our store and called Mrs. Whitehead on his 'new' cell phone to expain what he had just done. We all got a good laugh out of that. I left for the Air Force on May 4, 2004 and we sadly lost him on May 11. I did not know of his passing until I came back home on leave to bury my own father. Everytime I hear that song I think of the man that he was and the time that I met him. I still blast it as loud as I can. I was saddened to hear of the passing of Gene McFadden, but their vision and there music will always remind me that I'm just a Philly boy who decided to chase a dream and let nothing stop me. "Aint No Stoppin Us Now" will serve as a personal motivation for the rest of my life. We will never forget you two! Rest in Peace.

Today would have been Toot's birthday. He always loved letting people know that this was his special day and expected special treatment in return. "Mighty Whitey" was a great man and I'm taking today to honor his memory. May he continue to rest in peace.

I was too late to get one last look. My plane got me to Philly just as the services were concluding. I did see uncle gene and was happy to let him know that I loved him. My sister Kareemah misses her father everyday. I found this site for her. To the family, Kia, Shawn, johnny, Kenny, Dawn, I love you guys because you have been in my life since your births to the rest of your brothers and sisters too Much love from your Arizona family. I saw on the news today that there a new leads into the murder of Toot. His murder has remained unsolved too long and I'm hopeful that this new stuff will move him out of the "cold case files". He deserves vindication for what happened to him and his family deserves closure. I hope this works out. My sympathies and prayers continue to be with his family throughout all of this.

I'm posting this tribute to John Cavadas Whitehead, his family, and all those who supported his music, because I was deeply sadden about the murder of Mr. Whitehead.

"Ain't Nothing Stopping Us Now" is my favorite song of all times. This song motivates and inspires me to keep moving ahead inspite of my negative surroundings. In 1982 several student requested to sing this song for our 12th grade graduation; it wasn't approved because "Ain't" was an improper word at the time. Now "ain't" is in the dictionary and used on a daily basis. What a major mistake on the administration at Edward Bok.

I lost my mother two years ago; nevertheless, every mother's day I would sing "I'll Always Love My Mama," to her on my knees. Keep in mind I can't sing a lick, but that didn't stop me from singing to my MaMa. This song allowed me to express the love I had for my MaMa.

"Wake Up Everybody" is an expression of how our society should conduct themselves from generation to generation. That message was lost a few generations ago. Nevertheless, I would like to give my deepest sympathies to the Whitehead and McFadden Family and thanks for the wonderful music that will carry on forever.

I knew John since we were teenagers in North Philly. I became his partner back in 1991 and we were inseperable. John taught me a lot of things and his genius will never be matched. Im glad to say that John was my friend and partner in music and in life

My heart is broken. I just found out about John Whitehead's death. I met him in North Philly somewhere around the "projects" when he had just become known. I moved to Atlanta and then to Virginia Beach when I saw him on PBS and I decided to look up "Mcfadden and Whitehead" and I found out the bad news about them both. I have been so sad. Can someone please find out what happen to John Whitehead. I adored him.
