Submission Guidelines

(Updated January 2013)

We are not accepting freelance submissions at this time. Once we obtain enough funding to pay for additional obituaries, we will post our submission guidelines/payment rates, and hire a small staff of freelance obituary writers.

To request an obituary of a recently deceased person, send an e-mail to with the subject heading “Obituary Suggestion — Deceased’s Name.” In the body of the e-mail, include the deceased’s date of death and the reason for inclusion (i.e., what will he/she be best known or remembered for?). If you have contact information for the deceased’s friends and/or family or links to their Websites, feel free to include those as well.

While we take all suggestions under consideration, keep in mind that budget and time constraints do not allow us to write about every person who dies. If your submission is featured, we will respond to your letter and let you know.

There is no charge for this service.

If you don’t wish to wait for us to write an obituary about a recently deceased person, you may also purchase a paid death notice on our homepage. Feel free to link the death notice to your blog, Website or tribute page. Month-long campaigns receive priority placement. All inappropriate ads, or ads containing images of people who are still living, will be rejected.
